If your computer is running slow there are three things to do to speed up your computer.  This article will give readers information on the three things you can do to speed up your computer. Speed up your computer by cleaning out your disks. Speed up your computer by defragmenting your disks. Speed up your computer by rebooting your computer.

How to speed up your computer by cleaning out your disks:

In Windows 7 when you want to speed up your computer by cleaning out your disks you will want to go to the start menu. While browsing through the installed programs you will find a folder labeled accessories. In the accessories folder you will find a folder labeled system tools. Open the system tools folder and find the disk cleanup icon. Select the system cleanup icon and open the program. When you open the program you will be asked which system disk you would like to clean. You will have the option of cleaning disk C or disk D. If you choose to clean disk C you will be cleaning the disk that stores; Internet files, system error messages, and your recycle bin. This will give you more room on your disk and help speed up your computer.

How to speed up your computer by defragmenting your disks:

In Windows 7 just like when you clean your disks you will find a folder in the start menu labeled accessories. In the accessories file you will again find a folder labeled accessories. Under the disk clean up icon will be an icon for to defrag your disks. When you defrag your disks you first analyze both disk C and disk D. After your disks are analyzed you will have the option to defrag the disks that are fragged. If your disks are fragged this will slow down your computer considerably. Defragging your disks will speed up your computer greatly. This will also extend the life of your computer. Once, either disk is completely fragged you will find that your system will crash. When your system crashes you will need to replace your computer.

How to speed up your computer by rebooting your computer:

When rebooting your computer you will need to go to the start menu. Once in the start menu you will need to go to the arrow button on the bottom row. This will open a menu asking you what you want to do. Select the restart option. This will reboot your computer.

Doing all three of these options at least once per week will improve the performance of your computer. Ultimate performance will improve the longevity of your computer.

This procedure should be done periodically by all owners of PC. After reading umi dissertations you will know how to do this.

I used to use a program that not only defragged, but moved your DLL files closer to the hub of the HDD and moved the oft-used files towards the outer rim of the HDD. This greatly reduces swing-arm activity, and thus reduces latency and increased overall 'speed' by often more than 300% (in milliseconds, -would be almost unnoticeable to the average user, but it would make certain graphics programs load noticeably faster...)
